Early Childhood Development - Volunteering in Bali
Donation protected
Hello!
Working with children in underdeveloped countries is an idea that I've been thinking about the last few years. I have applied and been accepted to work as a volunteer in a Balinese School. As a volunteer, I will be assisting with early childhood education and sharing English language skills. In Ubud, Bali, children are taught English from kindergarten onwards. Interacting with native speaking volunteers will give them a head start and help with pronunciation and other language skills. As far as language learning goes, the earlier children are educated, the better. Bali’s tourism industry requires employees to speak English, so early education helps give local children a future with better job prospects and opportunities. As a Kindergarten volunteer, I will be helping local teachers with all lessons and with English language for children between the ages of 4 and 5 years old.
More than half of all children and teens do not meet minimum proficiency standards in reading and mathematics. Quality education provides an opportunity to learn and grow in a safe environment and is key to preventing poverty, securing long-term employment and improving quality of life.
The aim of the project is to:
- Provide a safe space for children to learn
- Sharing the English language and Irish culture
- Gaining experience in childcare and teaching English
- Developing your cross-cultural communication skills
- Immersing oneself fully in Balinese life
- Exploring Ubud’s rich culture and natural environment
I am hoping to raise €5000 to support this project starting in January 2022.
Every euro raised will go towards the realisation of this aim. Every contribution large or small will be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Tommy Cullen.
EDIT:
Thank you very much to everyone who has donated and showed support to this fundraiser so far. It means a lot to me, really.
Unfortunately due to uncertainty around the pandemic and ongoing restrictions, my start date for the project has been pushed out to March. Honestly, I am very disappointed but that's just the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.
I'm just going to stick to my guns and go in March as it's something that I've wanted to do for a long time! Hopefully with more time on my side, it gives me a better chance at reaching the goal.
Once again, thank you all so much for your support over the last few weeks!
