We need your help to pay for emergency repairs that are necessary to make camp happen, which is set to start in just two weeks. Our host site, a beloved local church, had their A/C system disabled after someone stole copper wire from the unit. They have secured copper wire for a replacement, but installation costs were quoted at $800, which is beyond what they can pay at the moment. This was not part of our expected budget, so we are asking for help from our community to cover these costs for them.
Last year, temperatures at our site reached into the 90s daily. The lack of a function A/C presents a serious obstacle to Lamplight and the other community groups that use the space throughout Alabama's hot summers. We've already made a plan, coordinated with the facility, and secured quotes to repair this vital equipment—we just need your support to get the job done. Please donate to help us fix the A/C, and get our facilities ready before campers arrive.
Since 2019, Lamplight has re-imagined youth education by transforming traditional summer camp activities into hands-on lessons in business management, community engagement, and collaborative leadership. Students don't just learn about cooperative principles—they apply them by running the camp itself as a cooperative enterprise. The program is accessible to all: there is no charge for families and we provide food and transportation to eliminate barriers to entry for campers.
