Our sweet three-year-old daughter, Violet, has been diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a rare and aggressive pediatric eye cancer.
Just days ago, our lives changed forever. What began as concern over her eye quickly turned into specialist appointments, anesthesia exams, scans, and the terrifying words no parent is ever prepared to hear: “your child has cancer.”
At the same time, we are preparing to welcome our baby boy in July, making this already overwhelming season even more emotionally and financially difficult for our family.
We are now facing a long and uncertain road that may include chemotherapy, multiple surgeries, ongoing MRIs, and possibly even the removal of Violet’s eye in order to save her life.
While we are incredibly grateful for the doctors and medical team caring for Violet in South Africa, retinoblastoma is highly specialized, and every moment matters when fighting this disease.
At the same time, our family is facing an overwhelming financial and immigration crisis.
My husband is currently trapped in an unresolved green card process that has already cost us more than $20,000 and years of waiting with little progress. We are desperately trying to keep our family together during the most devastating season of our lives while exploring every possible treatment option for Violet.
My husband recently lost his job, and I have had to stop working part-time in order to care for Violet full time as we attend appointments, procedures, and prepare for the difficult months ahead.
We are humbly asking for help to cover:
* Medical expenses and specialist care
* MRIs, procedures, chemotherapy, and surgeries
* Travel costs for treatment and consultations
* Lost income while caring for Violet
* Immigration and legal expenses connected to humanitarian efforts to keep our family together during Violet’s treatment
More than anything, we ask for prayers.
Prayers for healing.
Prayers for strength.
Prayers for wisdom for Violet’s doctors.
And prayers that our little girl continues to feel safe, loved, and surrounded by hope through all of this.
If you are unable to donate, we completely understand and would be deeply grateful if you would simply share Violet’s story.
Thank you for standing with our family during the hardest chapter of our lives.
Morgan, Gys, Violet, Isla and Cody de Wet
