Vinh and Emily Bui — affectionately known as Poppa and Momma Bui — have always been the heart of their family and pillars of their community. After decades of hard work, love, and devotion, they were finally nearing the retirement they had spent more than 40 years building toward. But in an instant, everything changed. While leaving their daughter Maria’s home in Massachusetts, Vinh and Emily were involved in a catastrophic highway car accident. Their vehicle was struck and quickly engulfed in flames. Miraculously, they escaped with their lives, but both sustained severe, life-altering injuries.
- Vinh suffered a broken neck and has already undergone complex surgery, facing a long road of rehabilitation ahead.
- Emily sustained a broken back, also requiring extensive surgery and an equally long and uncertain recovery.
Their healing journey will be lengthy and challenging, involving inpatient care, ongoing therapy, and home modifications to support their recovery. The medical and rehabilitation costs continue to grow, and as the full scope of their care becomes clearer, it’s evident that the financial impact will be overwhelming and unpredictable — far beyond what any family could plan for.
Vinh, known throughout his community and church for his gift behind the camera, has spent years capturing the beauty of local life and special moments. Emily, a longtime staple in New York City’s beauty industry and everyone’s beloved “Momma Bui,” has touched countless lives with her grace, warmth, and generosity. If you’ve ever been in their or their children’s homes, you’ve been fed, loved, and cared for like family. You’ve heard Vinh laugh at a dirty joke, and Emily proudly show off her collection of lucky pigs — small glimpses of the love and joy they bring to everyone around them. Together, they have built a life grounded in love, faith, and service — always giving to others and lifting those around them, even at times when they themselves had little to give.
Vinh and Emily’s spirit of generosity shines through their entire family, who have long been at the forefront of serving others. The Bui family has always taken the helm in times of crisis — launching fundraisers, organizing meal trains and aid, and finding ways to help wherever help is needed. From volunteering at their church, to mentoring underprivileged youth, to leading efforts that eliminated Grafton Public Schools’ lunch debt, to spending months aiding frontline workers during COVID — their compassion and commitment to others have never wavered. They’ve devoted countless hours to their community and never hesitated to rally friends and strangers alike to lend a hand. And now, they need that same kindness and support in return.
Their children — Thanh, Trinh, Maria, Alfonso, Angela, and Isabelle — are doing everything possible to keep their parents comfortable and cared for. The family thanks you from the bottom of their hearts for your prayers, compassion, and generosity during this unimaginably difficult time.
Your contribution will help ensure that Vinh and Emily receive the care, comfort, and resources they need on their long road to healing. Every donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference for this deeply loved couple and their family.
