Victoria Hay, daughter of Athens musicians Bob and Vanessa Hay and sister of Hana Hay, recently suffered a stroke and is now in inpatient rehabilitation in Minnesota, where she lives with her girlfriend, Chelsea. Doctors determined that the stroke was caused by a blood clot in her brain, although they are still unsure why it formed. Thankfully, Victoria’s heart is healthy, and the clot is not in the area where Victoria had a brain tumor removed at the age of 3 1/2 years old. Victoria is receiving intensive therapy and medication to help prevent future clots. Her therapists are encouraged by the progress so far, and the return of some tingling and sensation on the right side is a hopeful sign. Because Victoria is right-handed and currently has only gross movement on that side, there is still a significant recovery ahead, and it is too soon to know how long Victoria will be unable to work or need therapy.
Those who know Victoria know how readily Victoria has always shown up for others. Victoria has volunteered at events, pitched in wherever help was needed, and even helped at home when friends gathered for afternoons of live music. Victoria has always been one of those people who simply steps in and helps. Now it is our turn to show up for Victoria. We are asking for donations in any amount to help with uncovered medical and equipment expenses, rent, health insurance, and other costs while Victoria focuses on healing and regaining strength.
