Support Verlin's Journey to Full Recovery
My name is Verlin and I'm 64 years here is my story: *told by my daughter below*
At 330pm on Sunday march 9th 2025 I got a call from the EMT stating my dad was hunched over in pain and was throwing up and was getting rushed to sweedish American hospital. After I called my husband Tristan Bartholomew to tell him what had happened we sent tay to Robyn Skelton and Courtney Skelton grandpa and grandma house before rushing to the hospital to see what was going on. After talking to the nurses and providers ther in the E.R. we found out he had an aortic dissection. He then was flown out by helicopter to uw Maddison for his 12 hr surgery. we made plans for our daughter to stay at her grandmas house Valerie Bartholomew while aslo hanging out with cousins Veronica Gille , n her 3 beautiful babies, Packman Fonzo, Autumn Fiegel, Vanessa Richardson, Elijah Richardson, Tim Richardson, and her TT LaTwan Davis. We headed up to Madison as soon as she got settled and checked on my fathers house and thanked both his neighbors emily and chase for being there for my dad when he needed it most! Being as my dad lives alone it's amazing that he has such wonderful neighbors to help him! We stayed in Maddison for 2 days
After the surgery. We drove up each day as He was put in ICU and had a rough 4 days not much progress. We found out he had mini seizures between his haul to sweedish American and the ride to Maddison. He had EEGs, CT scan, and xrays, all came back normal, and it just took him longer to wake up the doctors had to find the correct mixtures of pain medication and other medications to have him wake up calmly and he finally woke up and got the tube out Friday the 14th at night. Saturday up until now he has had gone In the right direction and now is on his way to his recovery. unfortunately his kidneys have taken a hit and he might be on dialysis. He will be in the hospital for a few more weeks though to see exactly what he needs post surgery he is currently in and out of what is reality and what is what he thinks is reality since he was in and out of sedation for 4! I need my dad to be his crazy healthy self!!!
❤️
The road to recovery will include:
* Medicine
* Doctor visits
* Possible dialysis
* Rehab for walking and such
* My daughter will be taking unpaid FMLA from work to care for me, bringing her family income down to just one.
These costs, combined with the financial strain of the surgery itself, are proving to be a significant challenge. I am asking for your support to help me cover the costs of medical needs like walkers, a cane, and a possible lift chair and bed lift to help me get up or help sleep, gas and other costs for transport back and forth to the doctor visits, medications, etc., that are not covered, and to ensure we can fully focus on my health and recovery.
I am grateful for the support of my family and friends, and I am hopeful for a full recovery. Your contribution, no matter the size, will make a real difference in my journey. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
