Hi, I’m Liz Sheela Thomas, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my dear family friend, Usha R, who is currently facing an incredibly difficult period. Usha is a devoted wife and mother, and a skilled chef, working tirelessly to provide for her two teenage daughters. Despite her hard work, she is struggling to keep up with rising living costs, medical bills, insurance, and the financial burden of applying for permanent residency in Australia.

Due to her temporary residency status, Usha and her family are ineligible for government support, such as Centrelink or Medicare. To make matters worse, her husband has been detained by Border Security, and they are in the midst of a costly and lengthy appeals process. On top of this, Usha’s family overseas is also experiencing financial difficulties, leaving Usha with the full responsibility of managing the household and finances on her own.

As a single parent to two children, aged 16 and 12, Usha has been doing everything in her power to make ends meet. Yet, the financial strain has become overwhelming. Legal fees, school expenses, textbooks, and daily living costs have stretched her resources to their limits. Despite this, her unwavering faith continues to give her strength and hope.

Usha has always been reluctant to ask for help, but her situation has now become too difficult to handle alone. A few friends, including myself, have been offering support, but our resources are limited. This is why I am reaching out to the wider community—because I can see just how much Usha is carrying and how urgently she needs assistance. Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in easing her financial burden. We are also working closely with community advocate Suresh Rajan for additional support.

Throughout this challenging journey, Usha has shown remarkable strength and resilience. While we can’t change her past, we can make a difference in her future. Together, we can provide Usha and her daughters with the support they need to keep moving forward.

We aim to raise AUD 30,000 to help cover Usha’s legal fees, living and medical expenses, insurance, and other essential costs for her family. Your contribution, no matter the amount, will have a profound impact on their ability to stay afloat during this difficult time.
