Need for Program
“Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” In terms of mental health, a state of well-being concerns how an individual thinks feels, and behaves and how one relates to society (Social circle, Family, Social institutions, National Laws, etc.). This is a state achieved through proper routine schedules, ample physical care like yoga and meditation, exercise, sleep and died, social support circles, stress management skills, appropriate coping skills, meaningful and purposeful life-goals setting, sound family relations, educational and career opportunities and many more.
However, due to covert problems regarding their thoughts, feelings, and behavior and overt problems like family disputes, poor socioeconomic status, natural disasters, and sometimes even global distressful events like the current Covid-19 pandemic could pose a threat to well being. For instance, the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown have had a significant impact on people’s daily lives and routines as businesses and schools have closed, the infected number is rising, ravel bans are imposed and many other restrictions have been made. It has created the burden of financial stress, fear of Covid-19, loss of loved ones, loss of purpose, and meaning towards the future, difficulty receiving medical and mental health treatment, and many more. The psychological impact of this has been evident in the numerous cases of death by suicide, rising cases of anxiety and depression, PTSD, and complications of prevalent mental health conditions. Especially vulnerable have been young children and teenagers experiencing confusion, hopelessness, loneliness, anxiety, and depression.
The conditions mentioned above can be summarized as psycho-social problems dealing with a person’s psyche (thoughts, feelings, and behavior) and its relation to elements of society. In times of crisis like these, of utmost importance is support, links to necessary resources or consultation, awareness, and prevention of further complications. One of the actions that incorporate all these aspects is Psycho-Social Counseling
