Help Raise Funds For Better Mental Health Support

On Wednesday 24th of August, I will be setting off Cycling from London to Melton Mowbray Leicestershire on behalf of the Mental Health charity I volunteer for Unlock Your You.
I am Aiming to cover a total of 145 Miles in 4 days, an average of 36 Miles a day following the grand union canal from Brentford docks London all the way up to Market Harborough then onto Melton Mowbray. In the hope not only to raise awareness on my journey but to raise much-needed funds to continue the amazing work we do at unlock your you, in supporting so many who struggle with their mental health.
My Story
For years I have suffered from my mental health, as long as I can remember after suffering from historic child abuse, as well as many other contributing factors. I started to develop severe anxiety and PTSD due to the extreme trauma I suffered, leading to regular panic attacks on an almost daily occurrence, as well as crippling depression.
To the point I was unable to leave the house, go on transport be around other people for fear of my safety. I began to be filled with so much hatred, resentment, anger, and pain. I desperately needed something to make it go away, so I started drinking heavily to try and make the pain go away and for it to stop. After hitting rock bottom lashing out, trying to reach out to anyone who would listen on hear in the middle of the night drunk, messengering anyone I could wanting desperately someone to talk to and help me. This cycle went on undetected and hidden from so many, myself included for far too long.
It wasn’t until my 30th birthday, everything came to ahead after I started experiencing extreme lows and depression for long periods and then eventually developed into intrusive suicidal thoughts and tendencies. Feeling isolated, trapped, and terrified, battling with my mind, unable to sleep crying myself to sleep every night, fearing for my life, I just wanted the hurt the anger and the pain to stop. I contemplated numerous times how I would make it stop and put an end to my life. I knew with my beautiful wife and two amazing young children to consider, I had to get help and I needed help fast.
I am forever grateful for what they have done for me. Night after night on the phone for hours in tears, they comforted me, reassured me I would get the help I needed, and offered me so much love and compassion, they truly bought me back with the help of their wonderful volunteers and amazing training. I can’t believe how close I come to losing everything and my beautiful children growing up without their daddy.. writing this now still brings me to tears this Bike ride is for them and all the amazing volunteers…
Unlock Your You

We are a registered charity that provides mental health services and are bridging the gap between no support and clinical support for mental health.
We provide a range of services to help the community and people who are experiencing mental health troubles. We are
working hard to break the stigma of mental health and to educate as many people as possible.

I am now a fully qualified mental health first aider volunteering with Unlock Your You, and I am  dedicated in spending the rest of my life making sure no one has to go through what I did alone.
All donations however big or small are very much appreciated and every little really does help towards supporting the continued work we do.
