Support Unhoused Immigrant Youth in Boston
This GoFundMe is dedicated to supporting unstably housed, newly arrived immigrant youth living in the Boston metro area who are pursuing humanitarian-based immigration relief, namely asylum and Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (“SIJs”).
Asylum is for people who have been persecuted in their home countries and are seeking safety in the U.S.
SIJs is for children under 21 who have been abused, abandoned, or neglected by one or both parents.
These young people are trying to focus on school and meet their basic needs while navigating a new culture and a complex immigration system.
Immigration application fees are expensive — and because these youth are not immediately allowed to work, they cannot raise these funds themselves. It often takes six months just to apply for a work card, which comes with a $550 application fee. Until then, even essentials like groceries and public transportation are often out of reach.
Our first priority is to cover the application fees for 15 immigrant youth applying for asylum and/or SIJs. Once the fee is covered, they can actually file their applications — the most urgent step in securing safety and stability in the United States.
