UPDATED 1/11/2023
Ukrainian Closet has turned into a refugee resource center and continues to serve over 30 families per day, as more and more families arrive through the United for Ukraine program. We are here giving out free clothing, household items and resource information.
Ukraine’s Closet has officially settled into a storefront location 9431 N Division Spokane, WA 99218.
Over the few weeks we have welcomed into Spokane many Ukrainian refugee families.
We have been collecting donations for clothing and gently used household items to help settle these refugee families into their new homes.
The generosity of Spokane has been incredible.
We have been able to settle families into host homes and rentals.
With the donations we fully furnished their homes and provide clothing and household items for them.
We had no space for collecting the donations so we were putting them in a trailer that we were able to borrow from a local company.
That is where we realized that it is no environment for us to function within, first for the volunteers sorting and organizing the clothing and for the refugees coming to gather stuff that they need.
Rummaging through bags and bags of donations proved to be extremely uncomfortable for everyone involved. We set out to find a store front , and realized just how expensive the lease is for storefronts. Most places wanted 3 year agreement and at least $3,000 monthly lease. Which we knew our project could not afford.
Since it’s just ordinary people trying to help war torn Ukrainian refugee families.
There was a moment of discouragement during the search for a storefront. We were ready to give up our efforts.
Families come every day to the closet and get equipped for settling in with basic humanitarian needs such as clothing , shoes, dishes, towels , bedding , toys and furniture.
Volunteers come everyday to help sort clothing and donated items.
Than we found a landlord that gave us a free month , $1,998 month lease and only a year commitment.
We were overjoyed!!!!! We organized volunteers and painted the storefront walls with fresh paint and started moving the closet in.
Now refugees are coming to the storefront and volunteers have a better working environment, than the trailer we were using .
We are asking our community and city of Spokane to help us pay for the lease of the storefront.
If you love our mission and project we ask that you join us on this journey and support us financially.
We are ordinary Spokane people with huge hearts and small wallets!
Join us today by donating to Ukraine’s Closet Free store for refugees project!
