Support Typhoon-Impacted Eateries in the Philippines
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Kuya Kurt ("kuya" is a Tagalog word for older brother.)
I travel around the Philippines filming food vlogs that feature small, locally owned eateries called karinderias, which are often run right out of the side of someone’s home.
Last week, we were scheduled to film 15 karinderias in San Juan, La Union, a small surf town about five hours north of Manila. But just 12 hours before we arrived, Category 4 Typhoon Emong struck the area, leaving massive devastation in its wake.
Electricity and cell signal are still down and won't be repaired for weeks. Many of the restaurants we planned to feature lost their roofs, walls, or were severely flooded. Locals told us it was the strongest typhoon they’ve ever experienced. Many said they will have to take out bank loans in order to rebuild.
We’ll return to San Juan as soon as conditions improve to highlight and support the businesses we had originally scheduled. Normally, we give back 25–30% of ad revenue from our YouTube vlogs to the karinderias we feature, but I want to do even more to help them rebuild.
If you’re in a position to help, any amount is greatly appreciated. And if you can't help, just watching and sharing their vlogs when they’re released will provide so much help.
Thank you so much.
God bless,
Kuya Kurt
