Two Star Market's 23rd Thanksgiving Community Event

Two Star Market presents the 23rd Annual Thanksgiving Day Celebration! This free community event has family friend activities, entertainment, free donations and thanksgiving meal!

Located in the Dimond District of Oakland, Two Star Market has partnered with the community to bring a joyous Thanksgiving celebration and meal for all. Following the pandemic in 2021, this event served 1000+ meals to the community and we want to continue this legacy! We have nothing, but gratitude for our donors and volunteers who help make this event successful. This year we want to commemorate the 23rd year of serving the community in a BIG way and we need your help!

Although most of the support comes from volunteers who help serve on Thanksgiving; this year we are asking for those who can't volunteer their time to support monetarily. For full transparency, here are some items we want to purchase through your donations!

  • Decorations: balloons, streamers, table clothes, centerpieces
  • Food Serving: Aluminum trays, foil, serving utensils, chafing dishes, pot holders, food labels, plates, utensils
  • Volunteer: name tags, aprons, masks, gloves, sticker tags
  • Furniture Rental: Table, chairs, tent
  • Music: sound system, musicians

We are currently taking canned food, clothes donations as well. You can drop them off at 2 Star Market during regular business hours.

Two Star Market, a family-owned, community-oriented convenience store located at 2020 MacArthur Blvd., will hold its 23rd Annual Thanksgiving Day Celebration on Thursday, November 27, between 12 pm and 4 pm.

Farouq Alawdi, manager of Two Star Market, the former historic site of the Tepper Hotel and Beer Garden, said he and his staff are ready to feed an anticipated 1,000+ guests during the afternoon celebration feast. “We are set to provide 100 turkeys, 500 pounds of grilled chicken, as well as all the side dishes and plenty of pies for dessert. The only thing the public needs to bring is a good appetite and have fun while listening to live entertainment including , old-school and rap music. Children attending the event will also enjoy playing in a jump house located at the venue. Donated clothing and shoes will be available for attendees.” said Alawdi.

“In our home country of Yemen, our grandfather held the tradition of serving others during the Holy Month of Ramadan. So in 2002, my brother and dad decided to continue this tradition here in the United States and believed it was the best way to give back to the community.” said Alawdi. “The community has helped to sustain our business since we first opened in 1983 and we wouldn’t be here without them.”
