Climate Journey - Support Two Inuit Women Join

Donation protected
Help Riding Wild nonprofit support two Greenlandic Inuit women, Sikkersoq and Sascha, to join an 8-day horseback riding journey of self-discovery, environmental advocacy, and connection with nature. Here is a detailed document about this journey.

Greenland is losing about 270 billion tons of ice per year, adding to the global rise of sea levels. But what is also vanishing along with the ice is the Greenlandic Inuit’s traditional culture and way of life.

What’s the loss at stake for Greenlanders? The loss of their hunting culture partnered with the dogs that first traveled with the Inuit from Siberia to Greenland a millennium ago. And the threat of exploitation and mining to a country with an abundance of rare, and precious minerals, and natural resources...

But as Greenland and its culture are transformed by the quickening impacts of climate change there is a unique opportunity to protect and inspire a greener environmental future for Greenland. One way to support Greenland on this path is to engage and inspire sustainable and ethical tourism and advocacy.

Support two Greenlandic Inuit women to ride with us on this journey so that we may see the country through their eyes, and learn from a culture of perseverance, and fortitude, with invaluable ancestral knowledge and connection; transform and adapt on the frontlines of climate change. Their story and experience will be shared through their voices.

Meet Sikkersoq

"My name is Sikkersoq Kanuthsen, I am a 27-year-old Inuk woman from Nuuk. I am a certified Arctic Adventure Guide. I decided to become an Arctic Adventure Guide because I love being in nature.

For me, the best thing about working as a guide is hiking, showing Greenland's fascinating nature. When I experience the sound of birds, waterfalls, or just complete silence, the smell of plants and flowers, I feel peace and freedom. I feel that I can breathe when I am in nature, that I can listen to myself, and that I can rest away from everyday life. Unfortunately, climate change is something we all feel and see here in Greenland.

Joining this trip is a great opportunity for me because it will give me an experience of nature in a new way. It will allow me to spread awareness about how we experience climate change here in Greenland, and how it affects our lives. I would also love to show the other participants, the beautiful Greenlandic landscape and tell them about our culture."

We are sponsoring Sikkersoq with weekly riding lessons to learn to ride and prepare for this journey. Here are some photos from her first time on a horse!

Meet Sascha

"I am Sascha Blidorf. I am a 22-year-old Inuk woman from Greenland.
Nature is a very big part of me and my culture. We learn how to use what is given to us by nature in a sustainable way. I also live in a country where we see climate change with our own eyes. Therefore I need to take care of our planet like it is important to take care of myself. When I got the opportunity to join the horse riding expedition I was so honored because the expedition is about connecting with nature. I am also excited to educate and tell about life in Greenland and how we see climate changes through our eyes."

What our journey will offer:

On this intentional journey, we will create a space to ground, listen and deepen our purpose by connecting with nature.

We will offer guided meditation, breathwork, yoga and somatic exercises to allow the body’s natural wisdom to cleanse, heal, and recenter the nervous system.

We will create accessibility to receive the many benefits of partnering with horses.

We will share a climate change-aware story of this journey so that we may advocate for Greenland's environmental protection as the country adapts to the effects of a changing climate.

The hard cost of this trip for two people is $7,550 / $3,775 per person which includes meals, lodging, and travel within Greenland.

Donations will go through our nonprofit Riding Wild EIN - 832509224 to support both women’s spots on this trip.

Thank you for the generosity of your donation and for helping us share this experience.
