Life can change in an instant, and unexpected injuries often bring not only physical pain, but overwhelming financial and emotional burdens. On Saturday May 30, my son, Travis, was involved in a serious bicycling accident while training for an upcoming triathlon. Dedicated to his goals and passionate about fitness, Travis was riding at approximately 22 miles an hour when he hit a loose patch of gravel and was thrown from his bike onto the pavement. Despite the severity of his crash, Travis was able to call his wife, Kenzie, who is pregnant with their first child. As an athletic trainer, Kenzie immediately rushed to his side, stabilized his injuries, and made sure he received proper medical attention at the appropriate hospital. Travis suffered significant injuries, including a compound fracture of both the radius and ulna in his left forearm, as well as fractures to his orbital bone, maxilla, and sinus cavity on the left side of his face, as well as facial lacerations, which required nine stitches. While we are incredibly grateful that he was wearing a helmet which undoubtedly prevented even more catastrophic injuries, he now faces a long road to recover recovery. In the weeks ahead, Travis will be unable to work while he undergoes rehab and healing. There’s also a possibility that he will require additional surgery to address the facial fractures. As many families know, medical bills can quickly become overwhelming, even with Insurance, and the financial strain that comes at a time when Travis and Kenzie are preparing to welcome their growing family. Our hope in creating this GoFundMe is to help ease some of the financial burden they will face from medical expenses, lost income, rehab rehabilitation cost, and any future treatments that may be necessary. Any contribution, no matter the amount, will make a meaningful difference and will be received with immense gratitude. If you aren’t unable to donate at this time, we asked that you please keep Travis, Kenzie, and there, baby in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this difficult chapter. We are thankful beyond words that this incident was not even more tragic. You support, encouragement, and kindness mean more than we can express. Thank you, Aunt Andrea for helping me set up the GFM and God bless everyone!
