Support Trans On Screen In A Time of Crisis
Donation protected
Trans+ On Screen is a directory representing trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming professionals in Film and TV, founded in 2022.
Over the last 3 years, the organisation has immensely grown, and continues to do so; as of today we represent over 300 trans members, who have worked in all aspects of the industry: from acting in TV sets, to being in post-production studios.
Trans+ On Screen operates on a zero-commission model whereby any hired members take all earnings and are not expected to pay for membership fees. Whilst this model has allowed for a more empowered collective, it has also meant that a large portion of the back-of-house work, primarily operated by one individual, has been unpaid.
In less than a month, following the Court Ruling that has directly impinged on the rights of trans women, our work has intensified.
We have been working on:
- Taking support calls with our members, all of whom are from the trans and gender diverse community
- Maintaining and updating our website
- Offering members career advice and support
- Referring members towards industry resources
- Liaising with production companies, studios and physical productions on how to best advocate for trans people
- Creating a toolkit for industry partners and spaces to take active actions towards the safety and protection of trans people
This intensified workload, currently fully unpaid and falling on our one staff member, has been paired with a loss of opportunities for our members, as production companies communicate that working with trans people has been ‘tricky at the moment’.
With this awareness, we are seeking donations to support us in keeping on delivering our work and offering employment and mentorship opportunities to trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming professionals working in the industry.
Donations will go directly towards:
- Hiring (trans) welfare officers to work with Trans+ on Screen and offer support to community and wider industry
- Offer opportunities for peer to peer support and safe space maintenance in industry spaces
- Working with a Web and Cybersecurity developer to maintain our website up to date, and inserting data protection to ensure the safety of all our members
- Offer politically timely updates on our toolkit as new rulings and legislation comes into place
- The creation of a hardship fund that’ll go towards members’ job cancellations on the basis of discriminatory attitudes
We are fundraising £40,000 and all profits will go towards the hardship funds and opportunities to ensure Trans+ on Screen sustains the current climate.
