On January 28th, the historic Tomlinson House in Cleveland, TN sustained a small fire. Although the initial report was minimal damage, the city required significant electrical repairs before power could be restored. In the interim, extremely cold temperatures caused pipes to burst. Additionally smoke damage is requiring new ductwork to be installed.
David Arrington has worked very hard to preserve this historic residence and the significant history of The Church of God. He has been generous to allow passerbys to come in and tour this historic home free of charge. Please offer a gift to him to help with his restoration efforts.
Pastor A.J. Tomlinson arrived in the town of Cleveland, TN, on December 8, 1904, to occupy his newly purchased home at 2525 Gaut Street. A few days later he recorded in his journal, “I came to Cleveland to make ready for my family. Homer came on the tenth. Wife and daughters came on the thirteenth.” The house had been empty for some time due to claims that it was haunted. Such tales did not bother the Holiness preacher, and the reduced price of $600 was a blessing for the growing family. With Tomlinson’s arrival, Cleveland became the Tomlinson home and the ministry headquarters of the Church of God.
