UPDATE
November 4th. My dad made his final adventure.
Still trying to wrap my mind around doing the rest of my life without him by my side. I could say a million things about him and the short 65 years he got to spend on earth, but for now, we are incredibly thankful to have been loved so deeply by him that his loss feels unimaginable.
We will update with further plans for a celebration of life once arrangements have been made. ♥️
October 15th, after a broken arm (and later discovered broken femur) and a trip to the emergency room, unfortunately, my dad Tod was diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic cancer. Unfortunately, life-saving treatment is just not possible at this time. He has been cared for at Providence St. Vincent’s since that day, and our time together is narrowing.
It is not in my nature to ask for help (just ask my poor husband who is constantly trying to help me), but I have had multiple people reach out and ask if they can help in any way, and this would be the best way possible. The travel back and forth between Central Oregon and Portland/The Coast is adding up. Lost time from work, lodging, food, medical care, and eventually end-of-life services, etc., all need to be paid for. I kindly request that if you feel moved to support our family during this difficult time, any contribution would be greatly appreciated. You can also send donations directly to Shawn’s Venmo account to avoid fees if that is easier for you. If financial help isn’t feasible for your family right now, please do not feel pressured. We would love to hear any stories you want to share about my dad, as those are worth more than gold.
If you know my dad, you know he loves traveling, building, gardening, eating good food, but more than anything, he loves his family. We are so grateful for all of the support we have received so far. Every kind gesture or word means everything to us. Please send him your well wishes and thoughts of comfort.
Final note: At this time, Dad needs to rest, and phone calls and texts can be challenging for him. If you have anything you want me to share with him, I would be happy to do that, but I ask that you please protect his peace during this time and refrain from contacting him directly.
