My parents, Tim and Linda Jones, have lost their brand-new home to an accidental fire. This wasn’t just a house — it was a true labor of love. My siblings and I built it ourselves and paid for it so our parents could enjoy this next chapter of their lives in a home made just for them. We poured our time, energy, savings, and hearts into creating something special for them.
They were in the process of moving their belongings in and were staying in their motorhome next to the house while finishing the final steps before occupancy. In the morning hours, a neighbour alerted them as the fire broke out. As the flames spread, the heat on the from fire became so intense they almost didn’t get out motorhome door. The motorhome was also severely damaged. Thankfully, they made it out safely, but the home was completely destroyed. Because the house had not yet received its final inspection and occupancy permit from the township, the insurance policy was not able to be finalized, and therefore the loss is not covered.
What makes this even more devastating is that nearly 50 years ago, my parents experienced a similar tragedy when an accidental fire destroyed their home while they had three children under the age of five. To endure the trauma of losing everything all over again in their later years has been overwhelming and heartbreaking beyond words. They are numb and in disbelief.
Tim and Linda are the kind of people who are always the first to show up when someone else is in need. They have spent their lives helping others, often quietly and without recognition, and they would never ask for help themselves and have a difficult time receiving it. To say it is incredibly difficult for them to be in this position is a gross understatement.
We are raising funds to help them replace essential belongings, address the damage to their motorhome, and begin the difficult process of settling in once again. Any donation, no matter the amount, or simply sharing this page, means more to our family than we can express. Thank you for standing with them during this incredibly difficult time and helping restore hope after such unimaginable loss.
