Support the Work: People's Porch Repair

ARC38 is a New York nonprofit with 150+ acres of forest, including an old farmhouse... a really old farmhouse.

Your help now will assure we have the materials we need for rehabilitating this house to continue to be of service to our members, Mother Nature, and the general public. We are attempting to complete porch repairs, then the house rehab continues on into the basement up to the attic as we give this structure the TLC it deserves!

Right now this means 36 sheets of plywood ($975 est), 4 square of roofing materials to include a weather-proof membrane and tin sheets as we prepare ourselves to comply with our insurance mandates. We also need another yard of sand, gravel, 5 bags of concrete mix and more assorted hardware.

A small but growing crew has gotten the project underway. Now, we need Your help to assure that we will have all the materials in place. We aim to not waste any resource granted to us, and to do our best going forward to have a more conscious and regenerative impact on the land we share.

If you’re available to help in the repair effort, and moving furniture and boxes of stuff out of the house, we’re open to volunteers coming up on Wednesdays and Weekends throughout the rest of this season, in anticipation of an upcoming deadline coming up to complete repairs on our front porch, continuing with winterization efforts to ensure the house is in good condition for the 2020 spring season onward.

As the supports are being rebuilt and this old house is getting rehabbed, so is our greater community in the midst of a Rebirth and Regeneration. The world has come around to the fact that land-based nature education and homestead experiences like we provide are immensely valuable resources. Increasingly, what were once seen as impossible alternatives, are coming into view as a better choice for most households, neighborhoods and businesses, to run more cooperatively, and with increasing awareness to our shared responsibilities and opportunities to one another and our planet.

We have gotten started, working with what materials are at hand. We benefit from each person willing to help to their abilities. With the graces of our elder ally Bill Henry, we are able to utilize a wood mill to process our own lumber, and a cement mixer to pour our own supports.

Together, we can continue to provide this unique space to all of you, and the greater public, to those who will teach us, who will learn, who will grow and help to be the change we wish to see.
