My name is Diandra Campbell. I am from a little seaside town in Jamaica called Whitehouse. Whitehouse has some 4000 residents, and is known for its fishing industry. Whitehouse is approximately 25 miles of a neighbouring town called New Hope, in the parish of Westmoreland.
On October 28, 2025, at 1pm ET. The most catastrophic and dangerous storm to ever hit a nation. Made landfall in New Hope Jamaica.
While Jamaica is no stranger to storms, this is the first in history that a category 5 hurricane, has ever made landfall on the island.
A Category 5 hurricane is a tropical cyclone with sustained winds of at least 157 mph. the highest classification on the Saffir–Simpson hurricane wind scale, representing the most dangerous type of hurricane and potentially causing catastrophic damage upon landfall.
Hurricane Melissa hit New Hope Jamaica with sustained wind speeds of up to 185 mph (295 kph), making it the most powerful hurricane to ever directly hit the island
Regardless of where you are on the island, if you are under the impact of those category 5 hurricane winds, you will suffer tremendous hardship. So imagine those in Whitehouse and New Hope Westmoreland. The eye of the storm, made a direct hit on them. Currently there is no communication, only from the few who have access to star-link. Because of this we are unsure of the total number of fatalities.
They are in total darkness. No power, all homes made of wood are completely destroyed. Hospitals, schools are destroyed.
Our home as we know it is no more. Westmoreland Jamaica is completely destroyed. It looks like the apocalypse. Many areas are under water. Families are trapped in their homes. Rescue teams are unable to reach them because of the dangerous conditions.
There is also the danger of crocodiles, who have been misplaced. Please help us.
Those on the island, who have managed to leave Westmoreland, and move to less affected areas like Kingston have already fallen into depression. They have lost it all and most importantly cut off from communication with people who are currently in the disaster zone.
St Elizabeth our neighbouring community, known as our food basket is completely destroyed. Just last year ,southwestern Jamaica was devastated by hurricane Beryl, we were still rebuilding. and now we are completely destroyed.
Any aid provided, will be greatly appreciated and will be used to support the victims of Southwestern Jamaica. Particularly those in New hope and Whitehouse Westmoreland, who have taken a direct hit from the catastrophic hurricane Melissa.
