Help Bring a Wind Phone to Vashon Island

We are a group of Vashon community members who believe that grief deserves space, compassion, and support. Together, we are working to create a Wind Phone—a quiet, reflective place where people can honor loved ones they have lost and find comfort along their grief journey.

Wind phones are symbolic, unconnected telephones placed in peaceful settings. They offer a place where people can speak to someone who has died, share thoughts left unsaid, talk about life's milestones, or simply feel close to a loved one again. Originating in Japan, wind phones have been installed in communities around the world as meaningful spaces for remembrance, healing, and connection.

A Vashon Wind Phone would provide a dedicated public space where grief is welcomed and acknowledged. Whether someone is facing a recent loss, marking an anniversary, navigating the holidays, or simply missing someone they love, the wind phone can offer a moment of reflection and comfort.

The Wind Phone will be free and accessible to everyone, regardless of age, faith tradition, culture, or background.
