Support the Upkeep of the Iconic Kuykendall House
Donation protected
Among the oldest buildings still standing in Hampshire County, the Isaac and Nathaniel Kuykendall house along the South Branch of the Potomac has seen a lot of history. In quite a dilapidated condition, the house was purchased in 1977 by Dan Wagoner, native of Springfield, who with the help of family and friends restored the home to its current condition. Dan passed away in 2023 leaving the property in the hands of a limited liability corporation staffed by family members who are dedicated to preserving the structure.
The text below was written by Matt Sincell, one of the LLC members, and directed towards people familiar with the situation but we encourage everyone, particularly Hampshire County natives and all the folks who enjoy the Potomac Eagle to make a donation toward the effort
"Greetings everyone! Those of you who knew Dan may or may not know that he owned an incredible property in Romney, WV where he and George would spend much of their summer. It's a stone house, built in 1789, that sits quietly in the WV hills.
Those of you who have ventured to Dan's house recall that one way to get there is to drive a truck through the river and across a cow field. This trip through the river was the gateway to an always magical experience: drawing water from the well; lighting candles to see your way to bed; listening to the symphony of creatures; sitting with Dan on the porch and talking into the early hours of the morning, to name a few. It has been a source of magic for all of us since Dan purchased the property in the late 70s.
Dan has left the house to an LLC that is composed of family members and we are asking for your help, as the house requires continual upkeep and maintenance. At the top of that list is replacing a fence around the property to keep the cows out. We hope to keep the house in a condition Dan would be proud of.
We want this to be a place of peace, communion, and artistic creativity. And we want you all to be a part of it! Please consider making a donation and consider this an invitation to come spend time in a place that meant so much to Dan. Every little bit helps. Many thanks for your consideration."
