Hi! My name is Nicole Martin, and I’m a sophomore at the University of Mary Washington. I am the president and founder of the UMW Neurodiversity Club.

I started this club during my first year because I wanted to create a space where neurodivergent students, like myself, could feel safe, supported, and truly connected with like-minded individuals. Since then, our club’s mission has been to provide a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for neurodivergent students at UMW.

In our meetings, we’ve enjoyed a variety of activities together:
  • Sensory-friendly activities like making slime
  • Social events like game nights and icebreakers
  • Calming activities such as coloring
  • Educational presentations on different neurodivergent experiences and identities

Unfortunately, our club currently receives no funding. UMW has a separate fundraising program for student organizations (Eagle Funding), but because our club was officially recognized too late, we weren’t able to participate this year.

That’s why I’m reaching out for support. With your help, we can:
  • Provide sensory tools (fidgets, stress balls, etc.) for members who need them
  • Offer snacks and drinks to make meetings welcoming and comfortable
  • Buy craft and activity supplies for fun seasonal projects and creative workshops
  • Host educational events and guest speakers to spread awareness and build understanding across campus

Even small contributions will help our club grow and continue building a safe, inclusive community for neurodivergent students at UMW.

Thank you so much for supporting our mission and helping us create a space where every student feels like they truly belong.

With gratitude,
Nicole Martin
