On the evening of Saturday, 1 August, Andy and Julieanne Stoakes were involved in a devastating motor vehicle accident while travelling in Bali with a close Balinese friend, Jeffrey, who was driving the vehicle.
The circumstances surrounding the accident are still being investigated.
Tragically, Andy lost his life as a result of the accident.
Julieanne sustained life-threatening injuries and, after receiving emergency treatment in Bali, was medically evacuated to Perth, where she remains in the Trauma Ward at Royal Perth Hospital. She now faces a long and challenging journey of surgeries, rehabilitation and recovery.
Jeffrey also sustained critical injuries and remains in hospital in Bali.
As soon as they received the heartbreaking news, Andy and Julieanne’s sons, Ben and Daniel, flew to Bali to be with their parents.
In the days that followed, Daniel accompanied his mum on the medical evacuation flight back to Perth, while Ben remained in Bali to navigate the unimaginable task of bringing his dad home to Australia.
For many years, Bali was a place Andy and Julieanne loved. It held countless happy memories, making this tragedy even more unimaginable for everyone who knows and loves them.
While some immediate emergency expenses have been supported through travel insurance, the road ahead is still incredibly difficult. Julieanne faces months of recovery and will be unable to work for the foreseeable future. The family will also be navigating funeral expenses, ongoing rehabilitation, day-to-day living costs, and the financial impact of losing Andy.
We hope this fundraiser can ease some of that burden, allowing Ben and Daniel to focus on supporting their mum through her recovery and honouring their dad, rather than worrying about financial pressures during this unimaginable time.
