Supporting the Smith Family After the Loss of John Smith

It is with heavy hearts that we share the devastating news that the Smith family has lost their beloved husband, father, and grandfather, John Smith, in a commercial fishing accident off the coast of Cape Hatteras, NC, on Thursday, September 18, 2025.

John was the devoted husband of Libby Smith, and together they built a life centered around faith, family, and hard work. The Smiths are a tight-knit, devout Christian family who have leaned on their faith during life’s many joys and sorrows.

This past year brought many blessings for the Smith family: on June 29, 2025, John and Libby celebrated 29 years of marriage; in July 2025, their youngest son, Evan, became engaged to Hayley Neumann; in January 2025, they welcomed their first grandson, Bryson, son of their oldest, Benjamin, and his wife, Katelynn; and in August 2024, their daughter Jana married her beloved husband, Micah Oostdyk. These joyful milestones make this sudden loss even more heartbreaking.

John was the sole provider for his family, having spent his life as a dedicated and respected commercial fisherman. Born and raised in Stuart, Florida, John eventually made his home in North Carolina, continuing to fish from the Outer Banks down to the Treasure Coast for decades. He was a true servant of his trade, known for his work ethic, skill, and love for the sea.

Now, in the wake of this unimaginable tragedy, the Smith family needs our help. The financial burden following John’s passing is significant, and your support no matter how big or small can make a meaningful difference during this incredibly difficult time.
