Richard M. Sher, 67, passed away unexpectedly on February 18, 2025 after a cardiac episode. Born in Albany on June 2, 1957 he is the son of the late Jacob and Molly Sher.
Richard was a graduate of Albany High School and went on to attend Western New England University in Springfield, MA. Richard followed in the footsteps of his father Jack and worked in the scrap metal industry for many years. He enjoyed skiing and spending time with his cherished family. He adored animals and was endearingly referred to as “Dr. Doolittle” by his family. Richard was an avid Grateful Dead fan and followed the band across the country for nearly 40 years. He was spontaneous, tenacious and had a heart of gold that cared deeply for friends and strangers alike. He loved watching his son, Jordan, play ice hockey, travelling, clothes shopping, and a rare steak. We will always remember Richard for his sense of humor and profound love for his family and friends.
Richard is survived by his loving wife; Michele Sher; his beloved children, Jordan Sher, Alexis Sher, Isabella Sher and Anastasia Sher; and his sisters, Gail (Peter) Weinstein and Karen Bass. He will be remembered by his Aunt Lolly, many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Richard’s life mission was to care and provide for his family. Given his wife, Michele’s, battle with cancer and his daughters’ special needs, memorial contributions can be made directly to the Sher Family in his memory.
