Last night, on the night of December 19th, my sister’s family returned home after a power outage that lasted most of the day, to find their home in flames. The kitchen and dining room are completely gone, and the rest of their home and belongings have suffered severe smoke damage. Unfortunately their beloved family dog, Ember, did not make it out. Ember was loved and cherished by everyone who knew her and was so much more a part of their family than just a dog. She was a member of their family, and her loss is the hardest part of all of this.

The Shatney family (Travis, Tara, and their two children) are facing the challenge of rebuilding their lives, right at Christmas time. Insurance will eventually help, but we are hoping to provide them with a safe place to stay, and raise money to help with immediate expenses and essential needs in the meantime.

Tara and Travis give so much to our small community, and I hope everyone who is able can find it in their hearts to give back to them in this difficult time.
