In Luton, Bedfordshire, many older adults are quietly struggling with loneliness.
Some are widowed.
Some live far from family.
Some are retired veterans who once served their country and now spending long days alone, with little or no social interaction.
For many, the television is the only voice they hear.
Not because no one cares, but because no one is there.
The Royal Day Experience was created to change that.
This is not just an event, it is a lifeline of connection. A safe, welcoming space where older adults can share a meal, have real conversations, laugh, and feel valued again.
A place where they are not forgotten.
My name is Julian Businge, a Registered Nurse and founder of Royal Elderly Care & Wellbeing CIC.
Through my years in healthcare, I have seen the reality many never talk about; people reaching the later stages of life feeling invisible, isolated, and disconnected.
This programme exists because everyone deserves dignity, not just care.
