The Quiñones family needs our help to move to a safe and healthy home and replace many of their household and personal items due to mold contamination that has caused health problems for all 3 members of their family.
They are currently ministering in Bradenton, Florida where Alan is the pastor of Grace Fellowship Church (a Grace Advance church). He is an TMS grad and they were members of GCC, where they attended Grace Life during their time in seminary. Alan worked at GTY as well. Here is their story…
Over the past couple of years, the Quinones family (Alan, Shasta, and Judah) have experienced seemingly unending medical challenges. Alan has had constant fatigue, random nosebleeds, and skin rashes. Judah has had seizure-like episodes, nosebleeds, sinus swelling, frequent illnesses, fevers, and digestive issues. But Shasta has fared the worst: debilitatingmigraines, constant hormone disruptions, cervical instability, neck pain and shoulder pain with muscle spasms, a miscarriage, daily headaches, sinus pain, dizziness, trigeminal nerve pain, muscle and joint aches, shingles, GI issues, frequent colds, and more with diagnoses like dysautonomia, leaky gut, positive ANA auto-immune, high cortisol, multiple chemical sensitivity, bacterial infections, POTS, MCAS, and CIRS. Her health hasbecome so poor that life revolves around Dr.’s appointments.
These appointments were largely unfruitful. Though Shasta may experience bits of momentary relief through various treatments, the symptoms have always returned. But in February of this year God answered their prayers and revealed the source of their illness: Toxic black mold exposure hidden behind a wall, andrevealed through a cracked baseboard in the dining room/playroom. They were slowly being poisoned.
This discovery came as both a relief and a trial. It is a blessing to finally know what happened. On the other hand, there are still many challenges ahead for them. They vacated their home and have had to stay in hotels while looking for a new place to live. They have lost most things in their home due to the risk of mold contamination, including mattresses, couches, chairs, paper, and all books including Alan’s pastoral library. Given how symptomatic Shasta is, even items such as clothes are being left behind, lest they contaminate the new place and slow down her healing.
Unfortunately, insurance will not cover mold or the contents in the home. This puts them under financial strain. Therefore, we ask that you would pray for them – that the Lord would be glorified in their handling of affliction, that they would heal completely, and for financial provision.
These are verses they wanted to share that they have been meditating on:
He said,
“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
And naked I shall return there.
The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away.
Blessed be the name of the Lord.”
Job 1:21
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven”
Matthew 6:19-21
God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change
And though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea;
Psalm 46:1
25 “For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? 27 And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? 28 And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, 29 yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! 31 Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ 32 For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
34 “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matthew 25:34
Many are the afflictions of the righteous,
But the Lord delivers him out of them all.
Psalm 34:19
