Perspectives Charter Schools serves students and families from Chicago’s South Side, communities rich in pride, culture, and resilience, yet facing deep and persistent inequities. Across our five campuses, 94% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch, 98% identify as African American, and 5% are in temporary living situations. For over 25 years, we have opened our doors as a safe and supportive space for students to learn, grow, and lead.

Our commitment to peace and leadership is rooted in our student-led movement featured in the documentary I Am For Peace. The film highlights how Perspectives students organized Chicago’s first large-scale student peace march and inspired thousands of young people to stand up for nonviolence. Many of our students continue to face high levels of community violence, and last year we experienced violence firsthand at one of our own campuses. These moments remind us why this work matters so much.

This year, Perspectives Charter Schools is bringing students together for our annual Peace Summit, a full day of learning, reflection, and empowerment. Students from all campuses will explore how to build community, resolve conflicts in healthy ways, and understand their power and agency as peace leaders. Every student will take a personal Peace Pledge, committing to actions that strengthen their school, their families, and their neighborhood.
