The great jazz pianist and composer Mary Lou Williams was born in the Edgewood neighborhood of Atlanta in 1910. I am leading a team dedicated to placing a wayside marker commemorating Ms. Williams near her birthplace. The marker, the culmination of several years' work, will be placed by the sidewalk at Edgewood Community Gardens, just west of the site of Gossypium Street, where Williams was born.

I am trying to raise $3000 to (mostly) offset the cost of the marker. Your money will go toward manufacturing costs, installation costs, and compensation for the designer and historical writer. Any funds raised beyond those needs will be used to pay the musicians in a concert of Mary Lou Williams' music as part of the dedication ceremonies.
