In the Shadow of Marjorie Keller - Book and Screenings

I’m raising funds to help complete the final stage of production and printing of a book on experimental filmmaker and activist Marjorie Keller that will be published this September. I am hoping to raise $6,000 for the book and related screenings of Marjorie’s work that will help celebrate its publication.

In the words of the editor, Robin Blaetz, “Thirty years after her untimely death at the age of 43, the importance and influence of Marjorie Keller’s films and her work as an institution builder for avant-garde cinema have become ever more apparent. This anthology collects essays about Keller’s 8mm and 16mm films, her organizational labor both in film and social activism, her scholarly and creative writing, and her broad influence on the representation of female experience in relation to language. The book, which also contains a sampling of Keller’s critical work on the cinema, is intended to expose readers to Keller in as rich a way as possible.”

Keller’s films have been especially inspiring for women filmmakers over the years, among them She/Va (1973), Daughters of Chaos (1980) and Herein (1991).
