Dear Friends, Family, and Community Members,

On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, the Rochester, NY area was hit with severe flooding. Laura and Nate Malone's home was included in this damaged area. They and their three young children live at the very bottom of the hill in Lima, NY. There is no home lower than theirs. Flood waters came in and rose 18 inches into the first floor of their home. This not only damaged books, toys, furniture and food in their living room, dining room, kitchen, laundry, bathroom and den, but also destroyed the walls, and floors and subflooring. After speaking with insurance, they have found out that they have only $15,000 to cover all of the damages.

Laura and Nate will need to remove the floors down to the studs, as well as the walls in the entire first floor of their home. All the first floor furniture should be replaced. In addition, all of the contents of their home that were affected by the flood waters needed to be thrown out due to contamination. Laura, Nate and their children have been staying with friends, as the house is unlivable at this point. Although, insurance has said they can use the money from the insurance pay out to cover temporary housing, this would quickly eat away what they have for their home renovations.

Big ticket items that need to be replaced include the heater/central air condition system, electric push mower, electric blower and their new fridge.

Friends and family have already boxed up the belongings that could be recovered and moved them to a secure location. Other friends are helping to pull up rugs and remove the floor. The chip board floor structure is ruined and will also need to be pulled up.

Laura teaches as a fourth grade teacher at Lima Christian School and Nate works for Elim Bible Institute doing work with their missionary programs. Both Laura and Nate have done long term missionary work in China and other countries.
