My name is Santana Lira, and I’m creating this account on behalf of my parents, Joe and Seaneen Lira—lifelong Globe residents who have lived on Jesse Hayes Road for over 25 years. Like so many in our community, their lives were turned upside down by the devastating flood that struck our town on the night of September 26th.
In just a fraction of a day, everything they had built over decades was consumed by water with some items being washed away. Their home was completely submerged in over 4 feet of water—along with cherished family photos, furniture, clothing, and all the basic essentials of daily life. What the flood left behind is not livable, and they now face the painful reality of having to start over.
Living with them is my 8-year-old niece, whom they’ve raised since the age of two. Providing stability and care for her has always been their priority, and now, in the wake of this disaster, it’s even more important that they have the support they need to rebuild.
This is not an easy thing to ask, but they need help—and they shouldn’t have to carry this burden alone. Any funds raised will go directly toward their most urgent needs to begin piecing their lives back together.
We’re incredibly grateful that my parents and niece are safe, however, the emotional toll has been immense. With that being said, the love and support from family, friends, neighbors, and kind strangers has given us hope in the darkest of moments.
