Standing Up for Our Patients and Profession: Support Legacy APPs on Strike

Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) at Legacy Health are going on strike after more than a year and a half of stalled contract negotiations. APPs—which include physician associates (PAs), nurse practitioners (NPs), clinical nurse specialists (CNSs), and certified nurse midwives (CNMs)—say Legacy executives have refused to offer a fair contract that gives them a voice in their workplace and provides the competitive compensation needed to recruit and retain qualified staff.

APPs play a critical role at Legacy Health, helping deliver exceptional care to Oregonians every day. If Legacy refuses to make APP jobs sustainable, they will keep losing experienced providers to other healthcare systems. That means longer wait times, fewer available appointments, and a revolving door of clinicians struggling under the same broken system. This isn’t just bad for us — it’s bad for patients, physicians, nurses, and the entire care team.

APPs are standing up now because the future of patient care depends on it.

Funds generated via the Legacy APP Strike Fund will be used to cover general expenses associated with supporting health care professionals and our allies on the picket line. That includes, but is not limited to:

Emergency funding for member needs (including financial assistance) through ONA’s strike fund.

Food delivery

Beverage delivery

Transportation to and from the picket line.

Childcare costs for members and their families walking the line.

Picket line equipment (picket signs, bullhorns, strike captain vests, etc.).

Public awareness efforts such as advertising, social media ads, and other outreach actions.

While we are grateful for community support and support from our labor siblings, ONA will not accept donations from employers, employer-sided labor advisers or consultants, or from anyone who is an agent of an employer or who is acting in the interest of an employer.

Please note: Donations to the Legacy APP Strike Fund are not tax deductible. If there are excess funds, all donations will be reserved for future member needs via the ONA strike fund.
