Support the Lakota People of Rosebud Reservation

Friends & Family -

Years ago you supported me to travel out to Standing Rock in South Dakota to support our indigenous relatives fighting for our waters, to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline. The above photo is of me with Woableza, Lakota/Dakota elder, may he rest in peace, on that journey.

This July, I will be traveling out to South Dakota again, but this time to support my teacher, Millard Murphy, in his participation in the Sun Dance, a Lakota ceremony that miraculously has survived the onslaught of colonization. We will be joining the indigenous community that lives and prays at the Rosebud Reservation.

It's a big deal that I am being welcomed as a non-native to this ceremony and an opportunity for me (and you) to participate in actively appreciating this Lakota community through reciprocity.

Life on the reservation is beyond challenging. John Fire Lame Deer, a Lakota Medicine man from Rosebud born in 1903, described reservation living as fourth world, not third world because its poverty and oppression is created and sustained by the surrounding wealth and infrastructure of the US.

I share this to help communicate the blessing that every dollar with which you send me there carries.

The crew I travel there with is heading there to participate in the Sun Dance first and foremost, but we also travel to Rosebud in order to bring gifts and support the people of that land in an expression of our gratitude for the enormous generosity they have and continue to show us.

If you're interested in understanding a bit more about who the Lakota people are and what a miracle it is that they are still here, praying and sharing the Medicine of their ways, there's so much for you to read and listen to. Here are a few resources:

On the journey to South Dakota and once I am there I will be spending my personal money to participate in and support this ceremony and the community that holds it.

Every dollar you offer here will be either spent on supplies to support the community at Rosebud reservation or given directly to Norman Running, the chief of this Sun Dance.

If you don’t have funds to send but want to offer school supplies, kids shoes, wool blankets, beaded necklaces, or frozen meat donations, please contact me and get them to me by July 12th.

My invitation to you is to send me there with your prayers, blessings and financial support.
Please donate here and send me funds to bring to the people of Rosebud.

Thank you for your time, generosity and prayers.
It's all so helpful.

We will not be able to take any photos while out there so please know what a blessing your gifts are while not getting to see them delivered.
