My name is Rainee, a long-time friend of Theresa, and with permission from the Kim family, I am posting this GoFundMe page in hopes of helping raise money to lighten the financial burden they are experiencing while transitioning their family to another country by force.
Soeun, as most of you know, has been in the US since he was 6 years old, born in Thailand, after his family fled Cambodia as refugees. Soeun made one mistake as a teen, preventing him from getting his citizenship. He has a work visa, which is what allows him to work as he is the sole provider for Theresa and their family.
The Kim family was notified Soeun will not be able to remain in the country. The two options this family faces are for Soeun to turn himself in to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, where he will spend time in detention centers throughout the country before being deported to Cambodia, leaving his family without income to live. The other option is to self-deport, meaning he will need to pay for his own flight to Cambodia and provide documentation of self-deportation. With this option, Soeun and Theresa will take their children and leave the country as a family. As a wife and mother, Theresa wants to keep their family together and their children with both parents.
The Kim family continues to struggle while going through their home, selling off the life they have built here in Maine. I am asking for help to support this beautiful family through this difficult transition to ease the financial strain they are facing as they start to rebuild life from the ground up in a country none of them are familiar with.
You can also donate via Cash App at $Rainlee82, Venmo at Rainlee82, or mail checks, money orders, gift cards, or care packages to my home. Please reach out via Facebook for the mailing address.
