Support the Kaminsky Family in Their Time of Need
The Faithful throughout the Midwest and beyond have been recipients of the labors of the Kaminsky family – Sergi, Helen and Christine – for many years. Subdeacon Sergi has always been eager to support worthwhile Church projects, regularly praying and giving generous financial support. Helen led the Sisterhood at St. Sergius parish in Cleveland for 20 years and at St. George parish in Cincinnati for 12 years, all the while serving others through countless hours of volunteering. And behind the scenes, their middle daughter, Chrissy, helped both of them in whatever way she could, never considering herself or her long-term needs.
Now the Kaminsky Family needs our help!
As many of you know, Helen reposed at the age of 80 on Oct. 27, 2025 after a years-long battle with cancer. Constant aid and comfort throughout that time came from her family – primarily from Chrissy, who stopped working outside the home five years ago so that she could devote herself fully to caring for her beloved mother. Helen and Sergi’s other children Larissa (Kurt) Sander and Fr. Matthew (Krista) Kaminsky supplemented their sister’s care; additional support came from the eight grandchildren: Gabriel, Emilia, Kyra, Ella, Sophia, Abigail, Luke and Nina.
The day after Helen’s repose, Sergi fell ill and was rushed to the hospital. He watched the funeral for his wife of 58 years from ICU and underwent major surgery to remove a substantial section of his infected colon the next day. He is making a slow, but steady, recovery in the hospital; he has a long and difficult road to full recovery.
When Helen went on hospice in August, the support of other family for Helen allowed Chrissy to finally visit the dentist after years of putting the priorities of other’s first. This revealed the enormous extent of her oral needs: removal of all her teeth and fitting of dentures. This is a crucial step in improving not only her health and appearance, but her confidence in re-entering the workforce in the near future. While unexpected, this would not typically create a financial strain on a family like the Kaminskys, except for what the family discovered when Helen could no longer manage the family checkbook….
Several poor investments over the years – previously unknown – saddled the family with a big surprise and a daunting financial crisis. There were no funds available waiting to pay for Helen’s funeral. The mail brought new medical bills every day, each of which demanded payment. Retirement income barely covers Sergi and Chrissy’s basic needs, while debt has accumulated. Dental expenses need to be covered. Although the family has taken over management of all financial issues and has diligently worked to eliminate all unnecessary expenses as well as contribute in any way possible for the last three months, time is critical to reestablish a sound financial footing for the Kaminsky family. We can help.
Donations will be used for these purposes:
· Funeral expenses for Helen Kaminsky, $3,500
· Medical bills for Sergi and Chrissy, $10,000
· Dental treatment for Chrissy, $10,000
