The Handlers is a new worker cooperative offering property management services in Chicago. The co-op is owned and operated by formerly incarcerated individuals, and is part of the VOLTS network of co-ops (which also includes ChiFresh Kitchen, Jumpstart Housing Co-op, and CrossTreats). We take care of homes and buildings in our community—handling repairs, maintenance, clean-outs, and move-ins with care, skill, and pride.

Right now, we’re raising funds to purchase a reliable work truck. A truck will allow our worker-owners to transport tools, materials, and supplies safely and efficiently—reducing costs, increasing our capacity, and helping us take on more jobs that generate stable income for our members.

This isn’t just about a vehicle. It’s about ownership, dignity, and building a cooperative business that creates real economic stability for people who have been systematically locked out of opportunity.
