Support The Grindr Workers Union: For Queer Joy, A Stable App, and the Features You Deserve

We are formerly workers at Grindr — a mix of LGBTQIA+ individuals and fierce allies who joined this company because we believed in its mission: to center the queer experience, build a platform rooted in connection, and celebrate queer joy. We weren’t just here for a paycheck — or to have everything hidden behind a paywall, we were here to make something beautiful for the community, by the community.

But in August 2023, after we went public with our union, and advocated for fairness and respect for employees and users — we were pushed out.

Over the 18 months since, many of us are still unemployed or have had to accept positions that pay far less than what we were earning at Grindr. Many of the most affected are queer and/or people of color.

We formed our union because we believe in a Grindr that puts people over profit — one that prioritizes the humanity of its workers and users alike, and that builds the features our users have been asking for and need, specifically a verification system, unlimited blocks, and making sure your messages and pictures are not shared with any third parties!

We knew that by standing together, we could protect each other and build a better company. But instead, we are being forced to go through a lengthy court case to get our union recognized, our jobs back, and the back pay we are owed.

What We Are Fighting For:
  • A culture that delights in queer joy — both ours and our users’
  • Hiring practices and app development that includes the entire LGBTQIA+ community
  • A product roadmap that addresses and improves the quality of the app
  • Strong health and wellness benefits, including gender-affirming care
  • Pay equity and transparency to ensure that marginalized groups that are historically paid less are earning what they deserve

These aren’t extravagant demands — they are the bare minimum for a company that profits off of queer people every day.

We believed in Grindr because we believed it could be better. We still do. But we need your help.

Why We Need You:
Without your help, people in our union risk being unable to afford rent, utilities, access to healthcare and other things that allow people to live with dignity. We have had to empty our savings and dip into our retirement accounts, all because Grindr (who made $300 million in revenue in 2024) refuses to do the right thing. Many of us are still recovering — emotionally, financially, professionally. We are committed to fighting not just for ourselves, but for everyone who comes after us.

This isn’t just about one company. It’s about protecting queer workers across tech. It’s about showing that retaliation won’t silence solidarity.

If you've ever found connection, comfort, or community through Grindr, we ask you to stand with the people who made it possible. We’re not just engineers, customer service professionals, designers, or product managers — we’re queer people and allies who care deeply about the quality of this app and the lives it touches.

We're already all in this together.

In solidarity,
