At the beginning of the summer, David Wong –owner of The Gargoyle at 1041 Kingston Road– was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. This has been a shock for our family, but we have a great support system and an expert team at Princess Margaret guiding the way.
David and Charlene have lived in the Upper Beaches for almost 10 years. They opened the first Gargoyle pop-up on Queen St. E in 2018. The Gargoyle has been at its current location on Kingston Rd. for 7 years. Throughout this time, David and Charlene have become embedded in the Kingston Road Village community, and have grown a community of their own with the dedicated vintage collectors and pop culture enthusiasts who frequent the store.
David has supported his wife Charlene through her battle with Parkinson’s Disease for over 15 years. With David’s help, they are able to go to the YMCA gym every day, bike and stand-up paddle board at the beach, and run the shop together. With David out of commission due to cancer treatment, Charlene cannot run the store alone. They will be forced to temporarily close The Gargoyle for a couple of months this fall.
As David navigates chemotherapy and an upcoming surgery, we are reaching out to the community to help our family afford the costs of rent and essentials to keep David and Charlene healthy and comfortable through this difficult time.
Thank you for your support!
