Support the Free Foley Fund: Advocate for Freedom

This is a fund to raise visibility for those who are held against their will in a system that provides too much control to abusers.

Today is the day that the court was supposed to grant me my divorce. Today is the day that I was supposed to start a new chapter in my life. Instead today will be the day that I launch the Free Foley Fund.

I am blessed with an amazing village of friends and family. I am driven by an unforgiving love for my child. I am lucky to have the resources that allowed me to leave an unhealthy marriage. And yet I am still trapped in a nightmare that currently has no end in sight.

Every adult is capable of using communication and reason as tools to work through challenges. Even big challenges like divorce. But when one adult chooses to weaponize silence and treat respect and decency as options rather than rights, a rational process turns into a nightmare.

A nightmare that may deplete my savings. It may deplete my son’s college fund. It may require completely altering the quality of life that I have worked so hard to provide for him.

But I am still one of the lucky ones. I was able to leave. This fund is meant to be a safety net. Whatever is in it once I am granted my divorce will be donated to an organization that supports others who are not so lucky.

I am lucky to be able to advocate for consistency, calm, and safety in the midst of a storm of chaos. I am thankful that I can still scrape together the energy to ensure that I hug my heart goodbye before school and kiss him goodnight before bed no matter what. I am blessed but I am not free…yet.
