New Hanover Regional Medical Center currently holds a two-star rating for quality from Medicare, and recent Leapfrog safety scores show concerning declines in both patient communication and surgical outcomes. Our community deserves better healthcare — we are committed to making that a reality, but we need your help.
The Cape Fear Five Star Project is a volunteer-driven initiative that has dedicated over 1,000 hours in the past year to improve healthcare quality in our community. We are working tirelessly, but we cannot do it without your support. Your contribution will not pay for staffing. Instead, your generosity will directly fund the following initiatives:
- $20 – Keep our website running and up-to-date for a full month, ensuring our community has access to the latest information.
- $20 – Provide eight copies of the Hospital Survival Guide (in English or Spanish) for free distribution to patients and families in need of essential information.
- $40 – Sponsor one day of Spanish-language education on La Raza radio, helping to reach and inform a broader community.
- $50 – Cover one month of utilities and overhead costs to keep our operations running smoothly.
- $100 – Fund one community education program on patient advocacy, ensuring attendees leave with valuable, practical materials to help navigate the healthcare system.
- $200 – Enable one four-day training program at OLLI, equipping family members with the knowledge and tools they need to become effective healthcare advocates for their loved ones.
