For generations, Holy Family Church has been a place of meaning, connection, and shared history for local families and parishioners. Although the building has been closed for some time, it remains an important part of our community — and we believe it deserves a future that continues to serve people in a positive and inclusive way.
My name is Melissa. I’m a local parent, and I’m leading a community-led project to bring this much-loved building back into use as The Holy Family Community Hub — a safe, welcoming space for families, disabled and SEND children, and the wider community.
Over recent years, the building has unfortunately been subject to vandalism and arson attacks. Despite this, the response from the community has been incredible. With the generous support of Flawless Cleaning, who volunteered their time and services, we have been able to begin clearing and securing the space. Their kindness has helped us take the very first practical steps forward and has given this project real momentum.
Our vision
The aim is to carefully and respectfully transform the former church into a community hub that:
• Provides inclusive and accessible spaces for children and families
• Supports disabled and SEND children through safe, welcoming environments
• Offers opportunities for community groups, coffee mornings, and wellbeing activities
• Creates space for education, support services, and connection
• Preserves the heritage and memories of the building while giving it new purpose
This project is being developed in collaboration with local residents, former parishioners, professionals, and volunteers, ensuring it reflects real community need.
What this fundraiser is for
This fundraiser is focused on the first steps only — the essential groundwork required before larger grants and long-term funding can be secured.
Funds raised will help cover:
• Securing and protecting the building
• Professional surveys, reports, and insurance
• Initial architectural and planning work
• Compliance, safety measures, and early professional fees
• Making the building safe and usable while further funding is pursued
These early stages are critical. Without them, larger funders and grant bodies cannot be approached.
Why this matters
At a time when families, particularly those with disabled or SEND children, are facing increasing isolation and fewer accessible spaces, this hub has the potential to become a vital local resource. It is about more than a building — it is about connection, inclusion, and giving something meaningful back to the community.
How you can help
Every donation, no matter the size, helps move this project forward. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page is just as valuable and helps us reach more people who care about the future of this space.
Thank you for supporting the first steps of the Holy Family Community Hub. Your support is helping to turn hope into action.
