Quintin and Jennifer Felton, a devoted family of ten from Rock Hill, South Carolina, welcomed their ninth child, Isaiah Michael Felton, on May 21, 2025. Isaiah’s seven-week journey was marked by extraordinary courage, faith, and a profound impact on his family and community. Diagnosed with Trisomy-13, a severe genetic condition, Isaiah faced significant challenges from the womb, including Holoprosencephaly (HPE), a congenital heart defect (Tetralogy of Fallot), and other complications. Despite these trials, his life shone as a testament to God’s love and the power of hope, leaving an enduring legacy.

At 19 weeks, an ultrasound revealed Isaiah’s diagnosis, with medical professionals predicting a lifespan of less than a week. Yet, the Feltons chose to trust in God’s plan, advocating for every opportunity to give Isaiah a chance at life. Isaiah defied expectations, spending over a month in the NICU at UNC Chapel Hill, where he displayed remarkable resilience. He opened his eyes to his siblings’ songs, responded to his parents’ voices reading bedtime stories like The Brave Bear, and persevered through challenges such as seizures, breathing difficulties, and Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC). Each milestone—breathing independently, reaching full breastmilk feedings, or grasping his mother’s hand—was a miracle the family celebrated.

The Feltons’ faith sustained them through countless hospital visits, difficult conversations with doctors, and moments of uncertainty. They drew strength from verses like Isaiah 12:2: “Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; For YAH, the LORD, is my strength and song; He also has become my salvation.” Isaiah’s name, meaning “God is Salvation,” served as a constant reminder to trust in God’s plan, even when the path was unclear.

Though Isaiah’s life was brief, his legacy is profound. He brought the Felton family closer together and deepened their faith, inspiring meaningful discussions about God, even with their six-year-old, Elijah. His story touched doctors, nurses, and the broader community, demonstrating that every life, no matter how short, has purpose. “Trying to measure a legacy by a length of time is underestimating the power of our God, and His plans!” Isaiah’s courage continues to inspire those who hear his story to live with faith and resilience.

Isaiah’s medical journey placed significant emotional and financial burdens on the Felton family. Extended stays in Chapel Hill, frequent travel for medical appointments, and time away from work created substantial challenges. Now, as they grieve the loss of their “Brave Bear” and work to rebuild their family’s routine, they face medical bills, funeral expenses, and the need to support their eight children through this loss.

Allow Quintin time off work to grieve with his family and support their children as they process their loss.

From nurses who adorned Isaiah with sunglasses to shield his eyes, to friends who provided meals and lodging, to the countless prayers that sustained them, the Feltons have witnessed God’s hand at work. Every donation, no matter the size, will help them honor Isaiah’s legacy and find peace in this season of grief. As they wrote in their blog, “Oh, give thanks to the LORD! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples!” (Psalm 105:1-2).
