My name is Ni-Colle Crawford, and I am a lifelong friend and brother of Aubrey Benjamin. Aubrey's life was cut short by a brief and unexpected illness--pancreatic cancer, which took its toll within 21 days of diagnosis.
My friendship with Aubrey began 50 years ago when we were children in Mrs. Yearwood's kindergarten class at Watooka Day School in Linden, Guyana. We were brothers. Life-long friends who always looked out for each other.
Right up until the last moment, Benjie fought. He wanted very much to continue to take care of his family--to finish that which, to him, remained an unfinished job--seeing his children through university and on firm footing in life. One of his last statements to me was, "I cannot go. I have to get up - to be here for my family." And he proceeded to stand, an effort that was indicative of sheer will. Benjie's last words ring in my ear and his will to stand is indelibly seared into my memory. He was a father who cared more about his family than words could express. He leaves to mourn his wife, Jacqueline, and three children: Jasmin, Adino, and Asaiah.
I have created this Gofundme page to help his family. Anyone who is willing and able to support this loving family at this difficult time can contribute to this Gofundme.
Thanks, Ni-Colle
