My daughter Haley was on her way to pick my granddaughter Ariana up from Preschool yesterday on 01/14/2026 at roughly 3:30pm. She avoided taking the free way due to road conditions and instead decided to take Gratiot to 26, and was heading towards county line, she was traveling at 30mph due to the hazardous road conditions. She was approaching 26 & 94 when suddenly a car coming from the opposite direction, going roughly 55mph lost control of their vehicle, spun out and veered across the road into Haley's lane and hit her car head on.
Haley was traveling with her two youngest children- Ronin, who will be 3 in February, and Violet who is 6 months old. All 3 members of their vehicle were taken by EMS to Mclaren Macomb to assess their injuries.
Haley being in the front of the vehicle took the majority of the impact and is extremely beat up and bruised. It is very painful for her to move around and pick up her young children currently. Her left arm is unfortunately struggling the most as she is unable to lift it still. She had potential collar bone fractures which were thankfully ruled out to just be severe bruising from the impact. Ronin also has bruising, Violet took the least of the impact of the 3 travelers.
Haley's car is now totaled, with no family vehicle for their family of 6. Unfortunately due to the severity of the crash, the car is on hold at the impound lot per the police department and we were told it could be up to 2 months before it is released to the insurance.
Ethan, Haley's husband who not only works a civilian job, but also is an active member of the military was unable to stay with Haley and her children to on the scene and to go to the hospital due to his employer having no remorse for the situation. Ethans employer instructed him to get back to work and drive his semi truck back to the companies Taylor location over an hour away from the scene. Unfortunately his company would not allow him to take the truck to their nearest shop which was at 23 & Hayes. Due to the escalation of the situation regarding the incident, Ethan is now no longer employed. Leaving him without work to provide for his family, alongside the Dunlap family now having no family car for themselves and their 4 children. We are disgusted and disappointed with how Ethans employer has handled this tragedy. We are unsure how long the police department will have a hold on their car. They cannot receive compensation for the vehicle from their insurance until it is released from the police department.
This now leaves the Dunlaps with no car and a loss of income all in the blink of an eye.
We are so beyond grateful that god wrapped his arms around Haley, Ronin & Violet and protected them from what could have been a fatal accident. Cars are replaceable, lives are not.
Lets work together to provide support for the Dunlaps for medical bills, meals, car rentals, and gap for their current vehicle until they can recover and get back on their feet after this horrific accident.
