What’s up everyone!? My name is Matthew Steele, and I grew up skateboarding in Decatur, Alabama. Some of my best memories, friendships, and life lessons came from time spent at our local skate park (HighWheels). It was more than just a place to ride; it was where we learned confidence, respect, creativity, and community.
When our skate park had to shut its doors, it left a real gap. Since then, skateboarders, rollerbladers, BMX riders, and scooter riders haven’t had a place to call home. The sense of belonging, the safe place to practice, and the positive environment that once brought us together has been missing.
The roller skating community also experienced this loss when their beloved rink, Skate Castle, closed its doors. They, too, lost the place where they gathered, practiced, and built lifelong memories doing what they love.
For a long time, I’ve dreamed of bringing that back, not just for myself, but for the next generation and for everyone in our community who loves these sports. A place where people of all ages and skill levels can gather, grow, and support each other.
Opening a new skate park and skating space for Decatur is more than a project to me. It’s personal. It’s about restoring something important that we lost and building something even better for the future — a space that welcomes skateboarders, roller skaters, rollerbladers, BMX riders, and scooter riders alike.
With your support, we can make this happen. Your donation helps to get us building materials, equipment, and other essentials to turn this vision into a safe, welcoming place for all ages and skill levels. A place shaped by the people who use it. Together, we can create a place that brings our community back together and gives everyone a place to belong once again.
