*Update: Apr17th, 2025. We are so amazed & grateful for your support in helping us achieve our $7,500 goal. Since we have two weeks before we go to Peru, we are going to keep fundraising to a $10,000 target. Thank you for supporting us and this project.*
We are the Dragonfliers—a group of mothers, friends and adventurous women from Etobicoke, who believe in giving back to communities both local and abroad. In May we are embarking on a volunteer mission to Peru, where we will support the incredible work of Awamaki, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering Quechua women through economic opportunities. This will be our second service trip abroad having helped rebuild a school in rural Ecuador in 2023.

Why We Need Your Support
We are raising funds to purchase essential supplies and provide fair wages to skilled tradeswomen in rural Andean communities. We are supporting their culture and traditional weaving skills, which are grounded in sustainability and community. The handcrafted products reflect fair trade principles and support the creation and growth of women-led cooperatives dedicated to the craft of Quechua textiles. By building the financial independence of women—who are at the center of their community—we help ensure a stronger, more sustainable future for all.

About Awamaki
Awamaki works alongside Quechua women artisans, helping them preserve traditional Andean weaving techniques while connecting them to sustainable markets. Using organic plant dyes, zero-waste practices, and fair wages, Awamaki transforms craftsmanship into economic independence. The organization is a partnership between a Peruvian Asociación Civil and a U.S. 501(c)(3) non-profit, using market-driven strategies to lift women and their communities out of poverty.

How Your Donation Helps
Every dollar you contribute will directly support: ✔ The purchase of essential supplies for the artisans’ textile projects and for reaching new markets ✔ Fair wages for these skilled tradeswomen ✔ The growth of women-led cooperatives that preserve traditional craftsmanship ✔ Sustainable economic opportunities that foster financial independence for Quechua women which then benefits the greater community.
